About the Case Study Competition
The purpose of the case study is to provide students with a practical, “hands on” learning experience on relevant issues in college sport.
How the Case Study Works
Case study teams will consist of four students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate sport management/administration or closely related programs (e.g., MBA programs) with an emphasis in sport. The case study will feature two elements (solution paper and presentation) that will be used in the judging of the competition. For the teams participating in the competition, the solution paper will be released on Monday, February 18th (12:00 p.m.) and it will be due Friday, March 29th (5:00 p.m.). In addition, the competition will also feature a presentation-based element that will occur during the conference. This competition will be held on Wednesday, April 17th (approximately 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.) on the UNC campus.
Registration Information
Registration for the competition will be limited to the first ten (10) graduate and (10) undergraduate programs. Due to the popularity of the competition, we have made a slight adjustment in the protocol for accepting teams this year. While the final deadline for registration is December 7th, we will accept one team per school on a “first come, first served” basis until Friday, November 26th. At this point, we will open up the registration to more than one team per school if we have not reached the maximum of 10. Please submit your registration materials as soon as possible to secure your spot in the competition. Click here for application form.
Judging the Competition
The judging panel, selected by the College Sport Research Institute, will consist of sport-industry professionals, topical experts, and/or academic professors. While the judges may be familiar or involved in the selected case subject, they will not be affiliated with any of the programs or institutions participating in the competition. To determine the overall winner of the competition, students will be judged on the quality of their case content, presentation delivery, and ability to respond to proposed questions. The winning teams will be announced at the conference.
Location
The CSRI Case Study presentation competition will take place on April 17, 2013 at the Courtyard Marriott near the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
